 What’s New for the 2017 Nissan Maxima?

Apple CarPlay is now standard on the Nissan Maxima; the app enables you to use your iPhone to control the stereo head unit. Other than that, the Maxima remains unchanged for the 2017 model year, having recently entered its eight generation of production as the ultimate “Four-Door Sports Car.”

The 2017 Nissan Maxima has six variants: S, SV, SL, SR, SR Midnight, and Platinum. Powering this sports-oriented entry-luxury full-size sedan is the famed VQ35DE, a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. Hitched to the engine is the Nissan Xtronic, a continuously variable transmission that gets rid of gear shifting for improved fuel economy (rated at 21/30 mpg) and a generally smoother driving experience. On the steering wheel are paddle shifters if you ever want to simulate gear shifting for a manual transmission experience, and there is a mode selector to alter the drivetrain according to your driving mood. Designed as a five-seater, the 2017 Maxima provides up to 98.6 cubic feet (without the optional power moon roof). The trunk gives up 14.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seatback. The front seats include 8-way power adjustability on the driver’s side and 4-way power adjustability on the front passenger side. The SV is upgraded with leather seat trim, as well as front-seat heating capability with power lumbar support on the driver’s side. The SR has front-seat cooling capability in addition to heating, and the SR Midnight lives up to its name with exclusive Charcoal Premium Ascot leather-appointed seats with Alcantara inserts. Exclusive to the Platinum is a seating position memory system on the driver’s seat.

Concerning comfort and convenience, the 2017 Maxima, at the base level, has features like Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button engine start, illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls, remote keyless entry and vehicle start, a navigation system with an 8-inch color touchscreen, a garage-door opener, HD Radio, and a SiriusXM satellite radio subscription. Upgrade to the SL trim or higher to swap the standard eight-speaker stereo system is swapped with an 11-speaker Bose one. On the Platinum in particular, the rearview camera is replaced by the multi-angle, Around View® Monitor. For crash safety, the 2017 Maxima supplies front impact, side impact, and side curtain airbags. Also standard on the vehicle are electronic stability control for maintaining traction on any surface rendered slippery, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes for quickening stopping ability and preventing wheel lock-up when braking, and an anti-theft security system that includes an engine immobilizer. On the SV trim and higher, Nissan adds a front and rear sonar system for enhancing parallel parking ability. And on the Platinum in particular, Nissan adds forward collision warning, moving object detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot warning.
